Sometimes life takes us on unexpected journeys, even for well-known television personalities like Frank Fritz. As a longtime fixture on the popular show “American Pickers,” Frank had his fair share of personal struggles, leading to a tragic turn of events.
Frank Fritz’s story begins with his ex-partner, Diann Bankson. Their relationship had its ups and downs, but the impact they had on each other’s lives was undeniable. Unfortunately, Frank’s turbulent divorce took a toll on him, leading to alcoholism, unemployment, and health risks.
A Rollercoaster Relationship
Frank first met Diann Bankson when he was just 25 years old. They dated on and off before finally getting engaged in 2017. The couple even bought an Iowa farmhouse together in 2018 and moved in a year later. But their relationship took a sour turn in November of that same year when Bankson claimed to have caught Frank cheating on her.
Despite the betrayal, Frank still wanted to marry her. He had even bought a house and an expensive ring. However, he soon discovered that Bankson had been seeing someone else for the past two and a half years. It was a devastating blow for Frank, both emotionally and financially.
Coping with Heartbreak and Loss
Heartbroken and devastated, Frank turned to alcohol as a way to cope with his broken heart. He admitted to drowning his sorrows and losing a significant amount of weight in the process. But he realized that he needed to make a change and decided to focus on quitting drinking.
Sadly, his personal struggles also affected his professional life. After his divorce, Frank faced losses at work and eventually lost his hosting role on “American Pickers” on the History Channel after March 2020.
Health Struggles and Uncertain Return
Frank’s health issues further complicated his journey. He had back surgery, which caused his absence from the show. In the midst of his recovery, Frank expressed his desire to return to the program once he was fully healed. Although he claimed that the show had not made a definitive decision about his return, he received promises from a showrunner that he would be brought back.
TMZ, however, reported that there are currently no plans for Frank to return as a host on “American Pickers” despite his ten years of contribution to the show.
The Road to Recovery
While Frank faced numerous setbacks in his personal and professional life, his recent health struggles have been particularly challenging. He suffered a stroke and was hospitalized on July 4, 2022. Fortunately, his condition has shown signs of improvement, with his father stating that he is doing well and making progress every day.
However, the road to recovery has not been easy. Due to his ongoing rehabilitation needs, Frank was placed under guardianship and sent to a nursing home after being discharged from the hospital. A longtime friend was appointed as his guardian, with a bank managing his finances as his conservator.
Struggles with Decision Making and Care
Documents revealed that Frank’s condition is more severe than previously thought. He is currently unable to make important decisions regarding his finances and overall well-being. His guardian and conservator have the responsibility of ensuring his care, including managing payments, medical needs, and transportation for appointments and activities.
